Honoring The Tlingit National Anthem
Tlingit
National Anthem - from Sadrenia Katasse's Early Scholars Program Project
- on www.Alaskool.org. In grand camp
1989 Austin Hammond gave the Tlingit National Anthem to the Tlingit people
so that they could perform the song during the 1990 Celebration. It is often
performed today by dance groups and at traditional gatherings.
Tlingit
National Anthem - "This is the story of the Tlingit National Anthem,
a song that entwines our people with their past and keeps our ancient heritage
alive. At potlatch ceremonies, Tlingit elders sing the anthem and tell how
it came about-for many years in secret, for this ritual was long forbidden
by the government-always passing the story on to the new generations."
as retold by Robert Willard Jr.
(Raven/Beaver Clan Elder). This is Robert Willard's families version from
Angoon which he donated to this website in 1996.

The flag represents the Tlingit and Haida Central Council.
The central blue figure is the state of Alaska. The artworks are renditions
of the Eagle and Raven in traditional Northwest Coast style representing
the two clans of the Tlingit Nation.
